South Africa

Following the end of Apartheid and the opening of export markets, the South African wine industry had a substantial learning curve to overcome in order to be competitive on the world's wine market. Nowadays, South Africa grows a wide range of international grape varieties. Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc are the most common whites, while Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and, uniquely South African, Pinotage dominate reds.
