Château d'Yquem is undoubtedly a unique wine, unchallenged in terms of purity, complexity, longevity and subtlety. Aesthetically wondrous, there is a coruscating, golden glow that illuminates even the gloomiest dinner table. Older vintages oxidize and turn deep amber, almost brown hue for the most ancient bottles and one often finds conspicuous variation in colour between bottles of the same vintage, perhaps due to microscopic variations in oxidation through pores in the cork.
