Since late 1970s, Australia has rapidly become a world leader in both the quantity and quality of wines it produces. Australian winemaking results have been impressive and it has established benchmarks for a number of varietals, such as Chardonnay and Shiraz. Other major grape varieties are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Riesling. Wine is produced in every Australian state; however Australia’s most prominent wine regions located mainly in the southern, cooler parts of the country: South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania.
